Macros
“A macro runs several actions in order. Macros do not start or end the live stream.” A single macro can, for example, put the concert camera in preview, send it with a transition, then show the “NOW LIVE” banner and the artist’s lower third.
Macros are available in the Advanced view. They run on this computer, in this control room, and are saved with the event preparation.
The Macros page
Open Automation in the left rail, then Macros in the “Automation” list (or Manage in the control room macros bar).
- + New macro creates an empty macro and opens its editor.
- All · n and Quick macros · n filters, and Search macros.
- The table shows for each macro:
| Column | Content |
|---|---|
| Quick | The star: add the macro to the control room macros bar, or remove it. |
| Name | Color, name and a summary of the steps (for example “INTRO · 350 ms · INTRO”). |
| Steps | The number of steps. |
| Shortcut | The key combination, if any. |
| Last run | “Never run”, “Today 21:04 · succeeded”, “… · stopped at step 3”, “… · failed at step 2”, “… · completed with errors”, “Simulation · …”. |
- Row actions: Run, Edit, Duplicate (opens a copy “Name — copy”, without shortcut, to be saved) and ⋮: Simulate, Delete (confirmation “Delete “Name”?”).
- The Quick macros in the control room card previews the bar, with View in the control room: “Macros marked with a star appear in the bar, in the order of this list.” and “A click or the shortcut runs the macro; its progress shows in the bar.”.
With no macro: “No macros. Create a macro to run actions in sequence.”.
Creating or editing a macro
The editor contains:
- Header: ‹ Macros (back), color and name, then Simulate, Run (or Stop), Duplicate, Shortcut and Save.
- Steps: numbered cards linked together, in execution order.
- Inspector on the right: the selected step, then the Macro card.
Steps
- Add step at the bottom of the list, or + between two cards (“Insert a step”), opens the actions menu, grouped into Scenes and elements, Media and audio and Control.
- Drag a card to move it (“Drag to reorder”); a line shows where it will land.
- A card’s ⋮ menu (“Step options”): Move up, Move down, Delete the step.
- A macro can contain up to 64 steps.
| Action | Target |
|---|---|
| Prepare scene in preview | Scene |
| Cut to scene | Scene |
| Transition to scene | Scene (with the transition chosen in the control room) |
| Show source / Hide source | Source or live element |
| Mute source / Unmute source | Audio source |
| Play media / Pause media / Restart media | Media |
| Start timer / Pause timer / Reset timer | Timer |
| Wait | Duration in milliseconds |
The step inspector
Select a card (“Select a step to edit it.”):
- Action and its target (Scene, Source, Audio track, Media, Timer). A deleted target is flagged “Target unavailable”.
- Duration for a wait.
- On failure: Stop the macro or Skip the step and continue (not offered for a wait). “On failure, the macro stops. Actions already executed remain applied.”
The Macro card
- Name.
- Color: Blue, Cyan, Green, Amber, Gray. “Red stays reserved for live and emergency.”
- Show in quick macros.
Saving
Click Save. Possible messages: “Enter a macro name.”, “Choose a valid target for each action.”. Run and Simulate require a saved macro (“Save changes before running the macro.”). Leaving the editor with changes shows “Unsaved changes — Discard changes to this macro?”.
Keyboard shortcut
Shortcut opens “Shortcut for “Name””:
- “Press the key combination…”.
- If the combination is free: “No conflict with other macros.”, then Assign. If it is taken: “Already used by “Other macro””, it cannot be assigned.
- Remove the shortcut deletes the combination; Esc cancels the capture.
Scope: “In the control room only” — “Ignored while typing text, for example in the chat.”. No global system shortcut is created. A combination already used by a control room command is not enabled.
Simulating a macro
Simulate runs “through the steps without applying actions”: Studio checks that each target exists and follows a virtual preview, without changing scenes, sound, media or the output. Waits are skipped. The last run shows “Simulation · …”.
Running a macro
Three ways:
- Run in the list or the editor;
- a click on its chip in the control room macros bar;
- its keyboard shortcut.
Only one macro runs at a time. Each step waits for the actual confirmation of the previous one (at most 15 seconds).
Following the run
- The macro chip fills according to its progress; the bar shows “3/7 · Transition to scene” and Stop.
- The status bar shows “Macro · Performance 3/7”.
- In the Control tab, the Running macro card (“RUNNING · 3/7”) shows the start time and up to five steps around the current step (run, current, upcoming), with Stop the running macro.
Stopping
Stop (or ⌘. in the control room): “Stopping interrupts remaining steps without undoing actions already executed.”. Clicking Cut or Transition by hand also stops the running macro. Macros also stop when switching to the Simple view and on sign-out.
Run report
In the editor of the macro that ran, a banner summarizes the run: ““Performance” running · step 3 of 7”, “… stopped at step 3 of 7”, “… failed at step 2 of 7” or “… completed with errors”, with Back to the control room. The Run of Name card details Started, Completed or Stopped, Current step, Run, Failed skipped, Not run.
- Resume at step N: click a step (“Click a step to resume from it.”), then resume.
- Restart from the beginning: replays all steps, including those already run.
- Resuming uses the version that ran: changes saved since then are not used.
No macro restarts automatically when Studio reopens.
The quick macros bar
Between Preview/Program and the docks: MACROS, one chip per starred macro (color, name, shortcut), in the order of the list. Chips that do not fit are grouped under “More quick macros”. Manage opens the Macros page. When emergency mode is enabled, an EMERGENCY chip arms the emergency command (see Emergency mode).
