Comment on screen

You can show a viewer’s comment directly in the video: a box with the author’s name and message, at the bottom or top of the picture. Viewers see it in the live, and it is included in the local recording.

“Show in video composes the comment on this computer: it appears in the picture and recorded file. Pinning places a message at the top of the viewers’ chat without changing the picture.”

Showing a comment

In the chat, hover the comment (or reach it with the keyboard).
Click Show in video. The “Show a comment on screen” window opens:

Choose a comment: the chosen comment is preselected; you can pick another one in the list.
Position: Bottom of the picture or Top of the picture.
Display duration: Until manually removed, 10 seconds, 20 seconds or 30 seconds.
Check the Overlay preview: “Program preview · Composed on this computer”, that is the output picture with the box.
Click Show on screen (or Cancel).

The box appears immediately on the output. The text is displayed as written, “without interpreting code or formatting”.

During the live

The comment is immediately visible to every viewer and recorded. Read it again in the preview before confirming.

Removing the comment from the video

While a comment is on screen, the Remove from video button appears at the very bottom of the Chat panel, under “Sending options” and the text “Vivastream verifies official messaging permission for each message.”:

Click Remove from video: the box disappears from the output and the button hides.

You do not see the button?

It is only visible in the Chat panel (Chat tab of the control room or Chat page), and only while a comment is displayed. Scroll the panel to the bottom if the window is small.

Automatic removals

The comment also disappears on its own:

at the end of the chosen display duration (10, 20 or 30 seconds);
as soon as the output scene changes (Transition, Cut, macro, rundown): the box belongs to the picture shown when you confirmed;
if the video canvas size changes;
when you leave the event preparation or Studio.

Only one comment is shown at a time: showing another one replaces the previous one.

Messages

Message	Meaning
“No comments available for the overlay.”	The chat has no displayable comment yet.
“This comment cannot be displayed.”	The text or author cannot be composed.
“No output scene is available for the overlay.”	No scene is on the output.
“The output scene changed. Check the preview again before displaying the comment.”	The output changed while the window was open.
“Unable to prepare the overlay. Try again.”	The box could not be created.
“Program preview unavailable.”	The window preview cannot be shown; the overlay is still possible.
