Recording and upload

Studio can record your control room output to a file on this Mac, then upload it to Vivastream for this event. “Recording and streaming are independent. Stopping one does not stop the other.”

The Local recording page

Recording card

• State: Stream only (no recording), “Starting recording…”, recording in progress, “Finalizing recording… Keep Studio open.”, Recording finalized, or the error.
• Record when the live starts: starts recording together with the live.
• If your organization enforces it: “Your organization enables recording when the live starts.” (the box is ticked and locked).
• Record / Stop recording.
• Choose folder: the destination folder for files.
• Open file and Open folder once the file is finalized.
• File details: “Name: …”, “Folder: …”, “Size: …”, duration, format (for example “MKV · H.264 / AAC”), “Free space: …”.

Send to Vivastream card

“Once finalized, you can upload the file for this event. No replay will be published. The local file will be kept.” with Upload. Until the file is finalized: “The recording must be finalized before uploading.”.

Recording

By hand

1. Check the folder (Choose folder if needed).
2. Click Record. Studio starts the file (“Starting recording…”).
3. The control room header shows the duration “REC · 00:32:14”: click it to return to the recording controls.

4. Stop recording: Studio finalizes the file. Do not quit Studio during “Finalizing recording…”.

5. “Recording finalized”: Open file, Open folder and Upload become available.

With the live

Tick Record when the live starts: every live start also starts the recording.

At the end of the live, if the file is still recording, Studio asks “Stop the local recording too?”: Stop and finalize or Keep recording.

Disk space

• “Low disk space: less than 20 GB available. Recording continues.”

• “Insufficient disk space. Recording stopped; streaming continues.”

A long recording may be split into several files: “3 recorded files”.

Leaving the control room during a recording

“Finalize recording? — The recording is still being written. Stop it and wait for finalization before leaving the studio.”: Stop and finalize or Keep recording.

Uploading the file to Vivastream

1. Once the file is finalized, click Upload.
2. Studio prepares the upload (“Preparing upload…”), then sends the file (“Uploading” and a progress bar, for example “2.00 GiB / 5.00 GiB”).

3. Pause pauses the upload (“Upload paused”); Resume restarts it.
4. “File uploaded. Vivastream is verifying and storing it…”, then “File received by Vivastream. Your local copy is retained.”.

Automatic resume

• If the network is cut: “Waiting for the network… Will resume automatically.”. The upload resumes by itself when the connection returns, even after closing and reopening Studio.

• “Sign in again to resume uploading.” if the session has expired.
• “File missing or changed. Upload cannot resume.” if the file was moved or modified.

Uploading publishes no replay and never deletes your local file.

Uploads list

The Uploads section lists your account’s uploads with their state; “No uploads for this account.” otherwise. An upload replaced by a new one shows “Replaced by a new upload.”.

End of broadcast

After a live, the page becomes End of broadcast, with Back to events and Open folder:

• Broadcast: “End confirmed by Vivastream. Local recording remains independent.” or “Sending stopped on this device. Waiting for Vivastream confirmation.”.
• Recording finalized and Send to Vivastream.
• Session observations: “Last counters observed on this computer before stopping. Missing observations are shown as a dash.” — Frames dropped during sending, Frames missed during rendering, Frames skipped during encoding.
• Session log: timestamped state changes; the log only covers observations from this computer and does not measure viewers’ playback quality. With no log: “No log was supplied for this session.” or “No state changes recorded.”.
