Live elements
Live elements are graphics generated by Studio and composited into your scenes: lower third, timer, ticker, clock, announcement bar, scoreboard, progress bar and QR code. You create, edit and control them in the Elements panel, without external graphics software.
Each element becomes a source of the scene: it can be moved, resized, hidden and ordered like any other source. It is saved with the event preparation.
Opening the Elements panel
- Elements tab of the sidebar in the Advanced control room;
- or the Elements button under the Sources dock.
The panel shows the elements of the preview scene. To work on another scene’s elements, select that scene in the Scenes dock first.
The elements list
- Production elements and the counter, for example “2 elements · 0 in the output”.
- + Add: creates an element (see below).
- Search elements: filters by name. No result: “No element matches “…””.
- Elements are grouped: In the output, In the preview, Hidden. An element visible in the output carries the OUTPUT badge.
- Each row shows the type icon, the name, the type and its state (for example “Timer · Running”), a Pause / Start control for a timer, and Show / Hide.
- Click a row to open its inspector; ← (“Back to elements”) returns to the list.
Scene without elements
“No elements in this production — Add a local graphic element. Each element becomes a source in the scene.”, with + Add an element and a Get started section: Lower third (“Speaker name and role”), Timer (“Countdown or stopwatch”) and Ticker (“Messages scrolling in a loop”), each with + Add.
Adding an element
Click + Add, then choose the type:
| Type | Description in Studio |
|---|---|
| Lower third | Speaker name and role |
| Timer | Countdown or stopwatch |
| Ticker | Messages scrolling in a loop |
| Clock | Local time in the selected time zone |
| Announcement bar | A static message in the picture |
| Scoreboard | Teams, scores and period |
| Progress bar | Manual value and maximum |
| QR code | Link shown for viewers to scan |
The element is added to the preview scene and its inspector opens.
Limits
A production holds at most 8 elements, including 2 tickers. These limits protect rendering performance on your Mac; they do not depend on your subscription.
The inspector: common principles
All inspectors share the same organization:
- Header: ← back, element icon and name, ⋮ menu (“More actions”: Delete element…).
- CONTROL: the state (Shown / Hidden) and the element’s direct controls (Show, Hide, start a timer…). These controls act immediately.
- Editing preview: the real rendering of the element, computed on this device (“Editing preview · rendered on this device”, or “Animated preview · rendered on this device” for an animated element).
- Collapsible sections: Type, Content, Style, Position… Each section keeps a readable summary when closed (for example “Inter 120 · panel 55 %”).
- Panel footer: “No pending changes” or “Changes not applied”, and the Apply button.
Draft and publishing
Editing a field does not change the displayed element: your changes stay a draft until you click Apply. An invalid draft (missing QR link, impossible date…) keeps the previous content and shows the reason.
During the live
Apply publishes the content in the scene. If the element is on the output, viewers see the change immediately.
Showing and hiding
- Show / Hide in the control area or in the list makes the element visible or invisible in its scene.
- In the Advanced control room, showing an element in the preview does not change the output: the output is updated at the next Transition or Cut. Prepare a lower third in the preview, then send the scene.
- Macros can also show and hide elements. See Macros.
Accent color and position
- Accent color: color swatches or Custom color #RRGGBB (“Expected format: #RRGGBB” on error).
- Position: Top, Center or Bottom. You can then fine-tune the exact placement by moving the source in the preview.
Deleting an element
⋮ menu › Delete element…, then confirm “Delete “Name” from the production?” with Delete, or Cancel.
Lower third
To introduce a speaker, an artist, a venue.
- Control: Show / Hide, Hide in Output, “Ready in Preview · outside Output” when the lower third is only visible in the preview. During a timed display: “Hiding in N s”, Keep visible and Cancel hiding.
- Content: Title (the name), Subtitle (the role), Description, Avatar and Logo (Choose… / Remove, PNG, JPEG, WebP or BMP images; “Local image cannot be read or is too large. Limits: 16 MB, 4,096 × 4,096 pixels.”).
- Layout: Blue (“Avatar, accent bar, dark panel”), Card (“Rounded card, accent line”), Minimal (“Text with drop shadow”), each with its thumbnail.
- Animation and display: In and Out (None, Fade, Slide) with their duration, Display duration and Automatic hiding: the lower third hides itself after the chosen duration. The countdown only starts once the lower third is actually on the output.
- Style and Position.
Timer
Countdown before the start, stopwatch for a talk, countdown to a set time.
Control
- The counter in large type (for example “00:40”) and its state: Ready, Running, Paused, Finished.
- Start / Pause / Resume and Reset.
- Adjust: −1 min, −10 s, +10 s, +1 min while it runs.
- The eye: show or hide the timer.
Type
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Countdown | “Duration down to zero” |
| Elapsed time | “Since a chosen moment” |
| Stopwatch | “Manual start and stop” |
| Target time | “Until a time” |
| Target date | “Until a date” |
For Target time, Target date and Elapsed time: Date, Time and Time zone, with the computed target (“Target: …”). “Pause freezes the display. Resume recalculates the time until the target using this device’s clock.”. An ambiguous time around clock changes is refused: “Invalid date or time in this time zone. Choose an unambiguous time around clock changes.”.
Duration and format
- Duration with − / + (“Remove one minute”, “Add one minute”) and the shortcuts 1 min, 5 min, 10 min, 15 min, 30 min.
- Format: mm:ss, hh:mm:ss, m:ss, Seconds only, d hh:mm:ss, d h.
Text and style
- Text: the label shown with the counter (for example “SHOW STARTS IN”), Prefix and Suffix.
- Style: Font, Weight (Regular, Semibold, Bold), Size (Auto or pixels “at 1920 px width”), Digits (Tabular: fixed width, Proportional), Alignment, Text color, Background (Dark panel, Vivastream blue, None), Padding (Compact, Standard, Large), Background opacity, Hide zero hours (“Available with the hh:mm:ss format”). A font missing from this Mac is flagged: “Inter Tight unavailable · substitute: Inter”.
A running timer cannot take new settings: “Pause the timer to apply”. A timer that reached zero lifts this restriction.
Ticker
An information band scrolling in a loop: program, thanks, hashtag.
- Control: Show / Hide, current playback (“Message 1 of 3 · loop 6”), Pause scrolling / Resume scrolling and Edit the message on screen.
- Content: Messages (“One per line, in order”) and Label (for example “LIVE”).
- Scrolling: Direction (Left, Right, Up, Down), Speed in px/s, Separator (• Dot, — Dash, | Bar, None), Space between messages, Continuous loop, Pause between messages and Alignment for vertical scrolling.
Message queue
The Message queue section shows one card per message, in scrolling order:
- drag a card to move it (“drag to reorder”);
- each card’s menu (“Message options”): Edit the message, Move up, Move down, Remove;
- Add a message at the end of the queue;
- during playback: “▸ On screen” for the displayed message, “Played · loop N” for messages already played, “Next” for the following one.
While scrolling, Apply on the next loop publishes your changes when the next loop starts, without cutting the message on screen (“Applies when the next loop starts.”).
Clock
The live time, for example the local time of the event venue.
- Time zone (for example Europe/Paris).
- Format: 24-hour or 12-hour · AM/PM.
- Show seconds.
- Style and Position.
Announcement bar
A static message in the picture, for example “NOW LIVE · ON STAGE”.
- Message.
- Style and Position.
Scoreboard
- Team A and Team B: name and score, with −1 / +1 (“Remove one point”, “Add one point”).
- Period · manual text: for example “2nd half”.
- Layout: Compact centered or Full-width banner.
- Reset sets the scores back to zero.
- Style and Position.
Scores are entered by hand on this computer: Studio connects to no results service.
Progress bar
- Value and Maximum.
- Label.
- “Source: manual value on this device.”
- Style and Position.
QR code
A code to scan to open a page: ticketing, replay, the organization’s website.
- Link: “http or https, no credentials, 200 bytes maximum. The link is not checked online.”.
- Caption: for example “ACCESS”.
- Position.
The QR code shows in a white card with the readable link. Messages:
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| “Enter a link to show the QR code.” / “Link required” | No link: the element cannot be published. |
| “Invalid link: use http or https, without credentials or spaces, 200 bytes maximum.” | The link is not accepted. |
| “This link is too long for a readable QR code at the video resolution. Shorten it.” | Viewers could not read the code. |
| “The QR code could not be generated.” | Generation error. |
Studio never shows a fake code: a refused link produces no QR code.
